In the movie, Lakshmi is a girl from a village whose life takes a dramatic turn when she decides to escape from her conservative family and find love elsewhere. In the process she meets two young lovers, Maya and Ravi. Their story of love is interlinked with that of Lakshmi’s family as they try to rescue her from what they see as an immoral path. The film has been directed by debutant director Utpal Borah and has been produced by debutant producer Masarat Ahammed on behalf of his production company ‘Rocky World’. The movie was premiered at Calcutta International Film Festival in October 2014 where it won the award for Best Cinematography Award. The film has been titled as "Lakshmi" and is scheduled to release on 7 November 2014. The music of the film is composed by Utpal Borah, Jatin Mishra and Sandeep. Lakshmi was released on 7 November 2014 on about 2100 screens worldwide. However, the distributors of the film faced a lot of hurdles as some parts of the movie were not clear as they couldn’t understand the Bengali version.
